What about innovations coming from synergy between:
creative new ideas of new services + use of emerging technologies to protect these ideas ?

Good question. I think the answer is the same: find a customer need that you can meet with a new service, sort out (at least on paper) how you could meet that need manually, and then add in emerging technology - to the extent that it helps you do a better job of meeting the customer need.
The distinction is in putting the customer first, rather than starting with a cool emerging technology and forcing the customer's problem to suit the technology.
